The German Confederation

Beitrag von Carl the Great »

The German Confederation is lead by Austria.
The supreme authority (at least in theory) is the Bundestag in Frankfurt/Main, an assembly of minister residents by the 37 sovereign dukes and four free cities under the chairmanship of the austrian minister resident.
The army is built of contingents by all the single countries. Federal fortresses are Mainz, Luxemburg, Landau, Ulm and Rastatt.
The member-countries are sovereign over theirown people, not over the confederation. They aren't allowed to leave the confederation and have to obey the majority decisions.
Some regions of Austria and Prussia are not part of the Confederation: Austria's polish, hungarian and italian regions and Prussia's provinces Prussia (west and east) and Posen.

Some foreign kings are members of the Confederation, too: the king of Great Britain as king of Hannover, the king of Danmark as Duke of Holstein and Lauenburg, the king of the Netherlands as great duke of Luxemburg.

Duke Clemens of Metternich, the leading minister in Austria and by that the most important politician of the Confederation, works for the preservation of the new system. He stands in opposition to all revolutionary ideas and the liberalism. Civic-liberal demands are rarely fulfilled, the German Confederation is used to suppress national and liberal movements.
This leads to great tensions between government and society.
