Alles reine Indizien.. Wir wissen es schlicht nicht..
"Fakten":
My name is Juan Carlos and I was a developer in Team Magna Mundi. I coded the faction system, the renderer, the counters, the trade system, the corruption, the tutorial and also hunted many bugs. I can say with certainty I was between the top prolific members of Team Magna Mundi. A workhorse some said. Like the majority of the people involved in Magna Mundi development, I DID NOT sign the "Team Statement" that Paradox displays visibly in the official forums.
For obvious reasons I cannot confirm most of what Carlos wrote but I have my own parts of the puzzle to share with the people.
First, I am going to start with the strange case of Gamescom 2011 in Cologne. Carlos told us fromt he beggining how Paradox employees would behave and how the presentations would happen there. His words were not nice to Paradox. To my surprise, all happened exactly like he said, only worse! Paradox employees felt awkward in our presence and avoided us most of the time in clear contrast with every other developer there. Paradox employees tried very hard to hide Magna Mundi as much as possible. For every 5 journalists checking the games Paradox employees only allowed one to check Magna Mundi, always the amateur journalist with an obscure blog. The others saw all the titles and were ushered past Magna Mundi as it didnt exist. After the first morning we started to get really pissed off at the way Paradox ridiculed our efforts and enthusiams to develop the game so we took the stand by storm. We started distributing leafleats for all games - funny how the MAgna Mundi pile of leafl
eets at the front was empty or very small everytime we were not policing the place! We started to engage passersby and many people saw the game displayed there and also Magna Mundi of course. TV stations were making reports there thanks to our activity. It must be said that when giving his orders to us Carlos always stressed all games should be given the same visibility without any kind of bias towards our own. We did so. At the end of the fair it was team magna mundi that were there disassembling the stand with Paradox employees. From first to last!
Regarding this, if it was not so sad, one of the most hillarious things that happened was when we managed to fish any true journalist to check Magna Mundi. Then a Paradox employee interrupted every 3 minutes to ask if he was feeling well, if he wanted to check another game or if he was already finished. In one instance the journalist had to be really aggressive to the employee to stop being bugged. The girl did not return that time!
Another thing I want to talk about is the strange behaviour of some team members after a certain point of development. I was always being asked questions about how Carlos felt, how Carlos behaved, what Carlos said, etc. It was quite peculiar. In the same way, several times I had the feeling some people of the team was trying to check my opinions about Carlos while making very subtle suggestions themselves. This has been particularly annoying beacuse, wanted or not, emotional links are created between people in the team.
Another thing I want to talk about is the way that Carlos treated the team in the instances where I was present - and I was present in most. Carlos always treated the team nicely and in a polite way. The only exception happened during April when a very important team member stated he would not attend the general meetings anymore because they only served to lower the morale of the people involved. I find it hard to believe the only chance we had to be together and share what we were doing with the others could lower the morale of anyone. This same developer said in the same mail several very offensive things about Carlos. In the first instance he was not present Carlos made some nasty remarks about him. In all other instances I never saw Carlos mistreating a team member. Quite the contrary , this team member has been only praised beacuse of his talent.
Following with magnamundi, I want to tell the game is now in a playable condition and not worse than many other Paradox releases. If matching the usual Paradox release is not enough for a very poorly paid team of amateurs what is it? What I felt most strange was the lack of interest of Paradox in setting up a release date when the game was now in a release state. For instance, Paradox could have said: We release the game in September, do your best until then. But no.
Finally about Ubik, Ubik is a brand with a value on itself. Ubik is not a real person whereas Carlos is. Most people in forums should understand this fact.
I hope the game gets released. I spent many time on it. I hope it is not going to be wasted.
Yours Truly,
Juan Carlos Parra Pérez aka husita
Grüße,
