What do you feel the main development barriers have been? Is it the sheer scope of the game and everything to be included?.
Ein Wort von BL-Logic(Lennart):

Well stuff that isnt publicly known is covered by the NDA, but its already known that we had semper fi as the foundation.
So at least that one i should be able to talk about.
So PDS ( not to be confused with paradox south who makes sprites ) worked on FTM/TFH fixing some of the same issues as we also where fixing it at the same time.
Naturally once paradox released the expansion the code bases where so different that one cannot easely reuse the code from the other party, so we often shared on a bug by bug basis.
Many of these fixes & optimizations made it into TFH/FTM, and we in return also got bugfixes and important improvements like the better hardcoded AI from FTM back from PDS.
Also after the success of CK2, PI ( the publisher ) has a quite higher standard on the engine than they had when they released HOI3 (and dare i say sword of the stars 2, which is a good thing!)... but it also means lots of extra work on the HOI foundation that we got - which doesnt really help the game progress gameplay wise.
